Solar – Martial Storms

It is strange and satisfying to be home, down the slope of the old volcano, fixing garden beds, pulling buried bricks out of the yard at odd points, wrestling the plants and the ground under them. Cutting roots, turning earth to earth; everything’s changed again and I’m feeling changed too. The intense heat here reminds me of California’s drier hotter valleys, now drained and burning, and I hope THESE hills don’t share that fate. I’m thinking about the Sierra chaparral: the golden grasses, yucca, sage and juniper. 1

Which migrating species will find greater purchase in Oregon as time goes on? Which native plant and animal families won’t survive here any longer as the planet warms and the region dries?

Some lifeforms do very well at digging in and holding on. Even a single seed contains multitudes:

Genetic testing has determined a single 4,500-year-old seagrass may have spread over 200 sq km of underwater seafloor – about 20,000 football fields.

So reports Graham Readfearn for the Guardian May 31 2022,

“Scientists discover ‘biggest plant on Earth’ off Western Australian coast”. 2

As we live through, propel, and contend with massive shifts in and upon the very fibre of our miraculous Earth, the scale of human time is ludicrously insignificant. Yet due to this finite potential, the choices we make become vitally, viscerally important.

Since returning from our season in the Midwest I have been happily putting to use some of the ideas and skills I have been learning. I will continue to expand on the content I write about here as well as my growing apothecary in the SHOP section. I’m also excited to work with local friends here again as well as long distance collaborations, events, and generally continue new project threads in the Northwest and beyond.

This week, in the blasting of this grand and relentless heat, it is with excitement that I present to you a very special limited edition of 5 charred- red and ritually- patina’d Solar – Martial Candles!

These candles were heavily and repeatedly imbued with the force and assurance of Mars In Aries. Each has been consecrated with dagger, club, sword, and firearm as well as copious suffumigations and invocations of Martial energy, both tactical and furious, enthroned in the House of the Ram. The candles were then heated over sacred flame and rolled in my unique blend of martially- inclined spices, herbs, thorns and other materia before another round of prayers, offerings, and invocations were completed.

Further, Solar Deity was invoked over the candles at appropriate dates and times, infusing them with Strength, Vision, Foresight, Virility, and Victory. The candles were lit once from a very particular flame and snuffed under exacting circumstances.

Each candle comes in a sewn black bag made from cloth charged and dedicated to the Goddess Hekate on the day and hour of the Moon as well as prayer and offering to Saturnian energy invoked to bind and contain the volatility of the pieces. The packages are finally tied with thrice-wrapped golden thread similarly consecrated to the Sun through various solar avatars.

These powerful magickal implements are intended for those with a specifically desperate need. The process of their creation was quite taxing- I felt exhausted for days afterward, and following the climax of the Mars portion of the workings I rested from further such business for a full week except to meditate daily and perform astral cleansings to ward myself from feelings of aggression, anger, and impulsiveness. The planetary accumulations in this candle should not be taken lightly- that which gives Light and Warmth and Life also blasts, incinerates, and consumes. Invoke Mars in Aries for victory against people, systems, histories, circumstances, and all that which does not serve your highest purpose. Set hexes or lift those set against you, real or imagined, dire and festering. Dislodge that which has choked your flow, and always weigh the consequences of possible outcomes.

“Magnanimous, unconquer’d, boistrous Mars,

In darts rejoicing, and in bloody wars

Fierce and untam’d, whose mighty pow’r can make

The strongest walls from their foundations shake…”

-Orphic Hymn to Mars 3

Consider them here:

Below, a spontaneous chant I had cause to sing while crossing the Western Plains, in a pummeling morning downpour as J- motored us cautiously down I-80 through the silver and purple onslaught of the rain toward Home. A call for bravery and care, “safe passage” which echoes the language of fairy tale and can of course be intended literally or metaphorically. The enchantment illustrates a different angle of approach from the angry red spiritus of the candles; not the fire and knives of Mars or the bucking thrust of Aries but a poetic mythic structure: salutation, praise or recounting of deeds or attributes, and a firm but respectful demand, with credentials earned through association: “I compel you in the name of…”

Spell to hold back a storm

Hail to thee, Spirit of this storm! I thank you for the life giving water you provide! I thank you for the passion of your howling! I call to thee, Spirit of this storm! Grant us safe passage through your fury! In the name of mighty Typhon-Set I compel you! In the name of mighty Typhon-Set, Lord of Storms, Lord of All Chaos, I compel you! Part your curtains! Hold back your tempest! Grant us safe passage through your borders!

Yours in Deluge,

Jason Triefenbach, HFHR
